Firebase SDK updates can break your app across iOS, Android, and web simultaneously
Firebase bundles services — Auth, Firestore, Cloud Messaging, Remote Config, and more — that all evolve on their own schedules. A Firebase SDK major version bump can change security rules behavior, modify authentication flows, and alter Firestore query semantics in a single update.
“Firebase deprecated the legacy FCM API and we didn't update our server keys in time. Push notifications stopped working for 50k users on a Friday afternoon. The deprecation notice was in a release note from six months ago.”
